Diane learned to express herself through writing at an early age. Being number five in a line of eight children, she needed to be creative if she wanted to be heard. The others possessed a more outgoing nature and fought for the limelight, determined to get the attention they needed. Diane, however, wasn’t a fighter.
She smiles when she remembers the antics of her siblings as they raced each other in an attempt to steal the show: riding a minibike through the backdoor and down the steps, running away and hiding out for three days, or running into the garage door with a car. She couldn’t compete with that and didn’t want to.
So when the chaos started, she escaped into a world they didn’t know. In a quiet corner or out beneath a tree, her mind would explode with adventure and ideas. She’d travel into faraway lands and accomplish the impossible. Whether through a daydream, a book, or the power of pen, she’d ventured into unseen trouble and emerged the hero.
Time passed and life stole her time. Instead of writing stories, she read them to her three children and nieces and nephews. Now her children are grown, and she has time to write the stories that have filled the pages of her life. It frees her soul to be able to get lost in another world when she pulls out her pen. She’s recently published four books and have a couple more in the works. One, a mystery based on a true crime, comes out this fall. It will be a beautiful hardback book.
