Born and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado, I grew up with a strict Christian mother and a short-tempered, alcoholic father. My escape was reading, writing, and music. I think I was the only kid with my nose in a book during the Air Force Academy football games. In the fourth grade, I won a city-wide writing contest, which is where my love for creative writing began. It was about aliens asking what a family means to me. Clearly, it was fiction.
As a rebellious teen, I was very self-destructive and always getting into trouble. Needing a change, I followed in my father’s footsteps and joined the military.
During my four-year enlistment in the Air Force, I worked as a weapons specialist on the F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was in an Air Force commercial and even got to fly in a F-15E. I met my wonderfully patient husband, who was also a weapons specialist but on the F-16 Lawn-dart (not the technical name).
On a side note, I was sent to Area 51 for a short time. No, I didn’t see any aliens, and even if I did, I wouldn’t put it in writing. After our tour ended, my husband and I moved to the Louisville, Kentucky, area where we raised our two sons, who surprisingly enough were born on the same day three years apart – I pushed really hard to make that happen.
I now live in a log home on a small farm. I am a certified Master Gardener, who is a perfectionist at killing plants, and I also own a gourmet cotton candy business. I figured I wasn’t sweet enough so . . .
I am the president of Kentuckiana Authors. Since I started the group in 2012, we have grown to almost 900 members – woohoo!
So far, I have four books published. The My Beautiful Suicide thriller series is dark and twisted, and they are all on audiobook. They don’t suck, which is what I’ve been told, so you might wanna pick one up.
I am currently working on a children’s series, middle grade fiction, and YA thriller.
When I’m not writing I’m either reading, weaving, or working on the candy business.
My favorite author is Neal Shusterman. There are too many great TV shows to pick a favorite, along with musicians, along with food. My favorite sound is the hum of my dishwasher, washing machine, and dryer going at the same time; it means I’m accomplishing something. My favorite smell is fresh cut lumber. My favorite color is purple. My favorite alien is a tie between Venom and Tommy from 3rd Rock from the Sun. I love sloths, alpacas, angora rabbits, and quokkas. And that’s about it….
