So people have to sideload books they get from drop card's website?

For those of you who are wondering what the dropcards are for or how they work this is for you. A dropcard is a promotional item we're going to use annually. It's a plastic card, much like a bank card, that has a website and a unique code on it. When entering the code on the website there we will have our books to download. It can only be downloaded once so no need to worry about piracy. We will debut these in NY at Book Expo America and sell them at all of our fairs after that. We will save 100 for promotion for the Palace Theater book Blitz. Y'know "First 100 people through the doors gets 20 ebooks for free" type of deal. Here is the dropcard website. when i get all the material then i'll format it and make them. Post here if you have questions or want to send in your ebook.

Wish I could participate in the Atty (it's a great idea), but my publisher would not be ok with me giving away 1000 e-copies.

I'm not sure what you mean by sideload, but i think, yeah. They can only download it once and we can put any content on there. So if you have a trailer to the book we can load that up also. I will only accept authors that have their own website. This way if the reader likes their books they know where to find the authors. I can't have anything linked to FB or Twitter, it's unprofessional IMO.

When you download a file on device then send it to another, via email, flashdrive, etc, that's sideloading. For example, on the Kindle, the app does all the connecting, downloading and opening straight from Amazon's folders. However you can email other files to your kindle. Which means you downloaded it on something else than sent it to your kindle. It sounds like a lot of work, and may discourage kindle, nook etc readers from using a drop card. Tablet and phone users would have no problem.

Am I understanding this correctly? I would have to purchase 1000 ebooks from my publisher and then donate them. That would be at least $1500.00. Am I misunderstanding this? It sounds great but no way could I afford that.

I'm working with the Dropcards rep and will have all formatting information and downloading info soon. If you have any questions please let me know so I can ask them.

Jean, You need to get permission from your publisher to give away your books as a promotion. Do not pay for them. If they say no, then that's okay. We'll have other ways to promote.

Make sure your website is up to date and professional looking. Post all your links to buy.

If you want to do this your file needs to be in PDF form and you must have permission from your publisher. I will collect these March 1st-15th.

I ordered dropcards for me for NY and so far they are a success! I will start up with DC for us for next year around November.

@AttyEve - can you give me an update on the dropcards? I'm curious and I control all my own ebook files.
