It took a major health crisis for Eva Caye to reevaluate her life and dedicate it to her most beloved hobby: writing. So far, Eva has published thirteen volumes in the To Be Sinclair series of character-driven science fiction romances with benevolent, noble characters representing the chivalric virtues.
“It’s like I can mentally tune in to the video of a future parallel dimension. When I start writing, I see the scene so vividly that it spills off my fingers and onto the computer page. I always manage to surprise myself with the realism of each scene, though I try to do all the research necessary to make it scan as realistic.
“That realism means I include the occasional cuss word because people who are frustrated or drunk or at their wit’s end tend to cuss! In addition, the one major decision of anyone’s life is deciding who to spend it with. As a result, each book usually has one or two sex scenes since sexuality is a key motivation when choosing your life partner. The sex isn’t gratuitous and is meant for character development. For realism, I try to model mature and progressive attitudes toward sex.
“For readers who prefer things a bit spicier, I include ‘Easter Eggs,’ short stories or novellas as ‘extras’ in each book to make those readers happy. I hope you enjoy them!”
The To Be Sinclair series occurs some six hundred years in the future. Earth has survived an ecological near-apocalypse and discovered a way to travel to the stars by developing jump ships that jump through wormholes to other star volumes. Although Dignity begins when there are 108 inhabited planets, there is still an interplanetary frisson of unease that humanity has a fragile hold on its existence among the stars.
The series focuses on the development of the greatest ruling family in the history of the galaxy, starting on the planet Sinclair Demesne, which is down to its sole surviving scion. The light to moderate science supports the world-building without overwhelming the reader, and the series revolves around the lady who creates stargate science, opening up the galaxy to an unlimited future of human expansion and growth. Subsequent books about her children and grandchildren make for compelling romances while the importance of and need for stargate science is a theme running common through the books.
